Greater dilution possible with FC test during SLAM?

First time poster here. I'm currently midway through a SLAM on my pool with an FC target of 20 and testing multiple times a day. I have a Taylor K2006 test kit. Right now I'm testing FC with a 10ml pool water sample and each drop indicates 0.5ppm FC. Has anyone further reduced this to a 5ml sample and then each drop would indicate 1ppm FC? I'm trying not to burn through all of my test kit in the first week and don't need 0.5ml accuracy until the OCLT.

Welcome to TFP.

Yes, some folks have used a 5 ml sample to conserve reagent. You have less accuracy and greater error so I would shoot to see 22ppm if my target was 20 ppm to error on the high side and ensure you have at least your SLAM FC level.

Thanks for the quick reply! I figured it was doable, but wanted confirmation before I did it.

Perhaps a note should be added to the SLAM process page warning folks to order extra FAS/DPD and DPD powder in preparation for SLAM. I'm in the same boat - never thought I would use this much FAS/DPD drops.

I got my order in and should receive to tomorrow... but only have enough drops left for probably one more test before it arrive tomorrow afternoon.

I use the 5ml sample and 1 drop per 1 ppm FC when I have done slam. Works fine. Also, I only use 1 scoop of powder when I am using 5ml sample.
