A big cartridge filter has the least amount of resistance to flow. So, you can run the pump at a slower speed and still get good flow.

A DE filter is an ok choice, but I would give the edge to the cartridge filter.

Joe, the reason for suggesting the IC40 is because we always recommend getting a salt cell rated for twice the size of your pool. You will have much more flexibility in the output of the larger cell instead of having to run a smaller one at close to max output. It saves wear-n-tear on the cell.

I have a Circupool RJ 30 and it has been awesome. Easy to install and simple to control even though I have Pentair Intellicenter automation (awesome also!). The main reason many recommend the same brand equipment for all major components is there are some features you can get that way that aren't available or are more difficult with a hybrid system. For swg, you can avoid a separate controller and you can control % power plus run time with Pentair automation if you use their swg. In my case I bought Circupool due to the following reasons:

• $/lb chlorine production was better price. I already had a non-swg Jandy control that worked well but I knew I was going to change to another brand eventually because of their sort of no DIY policy on warranty.
• Warranty was much better than major brands and salt cells do fail early sometimes. Not sure why but my preference was to get as much warranty as I could and have it with no penalty for DIY.
• Reputation, especially here.
• For me, full automation control of % power and run time was not critical. Once you get the % power dialed in, it doesn't need to be adjusted often for my pool. I tweak FC with minor changes in the run time from my automation app.

Many of the choices for pools are based largely on personal preferences and they are not right/wrong. What are your preferences? If DIY is not important to you then your choices will often be different to mine. I've heard several talk about Pentair SWG issues but I've also seen several that rave about them. Plus their customer service is superb. There is a great supplier that has a brand comparison for most swg units on the market you can find it here. This saves you a lot of time searching for the technical and warranty specifications for different brands. Do shop around too, things seem to change often in the swg market. I've seen others very happy with different 3rd party brands and major supplier brands. I suspect their personal preferences often drive them to a different "right answer for them".
