Maintaining a Whirlpool Tub

Not sure if this is the best forum, or if Everything Else or Coffee Bar is more suited.

My question is in regards to whirlpool tubs. Our soon to be new to us house has a whirlpool tub in addition to a spa. I'm familiar with spa care, and will be using Ahh-some to clean the spa. I will also be using Ahh-some to clean the whirlpool tub.

How do you do ongoing care for a whirlpool tub? Seems like you may always get a little water stuck in them, and that means between uses stuff will grow. Especially if you use the tub with bubbles or any other water soaking products you wouldn't normally use in a spa. So besides a drain and plumbing rinse after each use, what else should I be doing to take care of the whirlpool tub and keep the nasties at bay?

A whirlpool bath is not much of an issue as you always drain the water and every time you use it you are adding fresh water.. I can't see where it would hurt to run ahh-some through it, but I do not see it as near the problem that spas have where the dirt, gunk, and oils really have no place to go. In my opinion, spa "filters" are about as useless as any filter could possible be...

I use this jacuzzi cleaner a few times a year on ours. Nothing really nasty comes out of ours as we are the original owners and stay on top of the cleaning. In our old house, we were not the original owners and the stuff that came out when we cleaned it the first time was ?

Good Morning Jseyfert13: Thank you for the kind words about Ahh-Some. Since your whirlpool is brand new, one flushing should do the job. Be use to only use 1/2 of a level TEASPOON. There are 24 cleanings in a 2 ounce container for jetted or whirlpool tubs. We recommend adding the Ahh-Some every 2 or 3 months. Add the gel after taking a bath and run the jets for 2 or 3 minutes. That is the maintenance protocol after the piping has been flushed of bio-contaminants. Whirlpools are much more frustrating to get the plumbing totally clean. We have had cases where it was not unusual for people to flush 25-30 times before they achieved success. We recommend warm water and a splash of chlorine bleach when using the product. Ok, then you definitely want to clean it with something. As the Ahhsome guy mentioned, it will likely take multiple cleanings. For reference ours was 5 years old when we bought it, and took between 5-8 cleanings before we were comfortable using it. The first 1-2 left a nasty brownish residue ring around the tub after we cleaned and drained. Then we had some sort of black flakes that continued to come out for the next few rounds (plus we cleaned it a few more times for good measure before we actually used the thing).
