Pool Timer Stops intermittently?

Hello,

I have recently purchased home with a pool and don't have much experience troubleshooting pool equipment (yet :) . )

I have a potential issue with Pool Timer. Currently pool filter is set to run 10am-4pm. Today I came out around 5:30pm and noticed that pool filter is still running. I looked at the timer and it was showing 3:50pm or so - very close to the filter turn off time. Not sure when exactly filter started, but i was in my backyard around 10:30am and the filter was working.
It looks like it just stops turning intermittently for some period of time. I was home all day along and there was no power outage. I have 2 timers - one for the filter and another one for the pool sweeper - both were showing ~3:50pm when actual time was ~5:30pm.

Similar issue occurred about a week ago. At that day there was no power outage either but the timer was several hours behind.

Anyone ever came across similar issue?

Welcome to TFP.

Your timer an Intermatic?

Does the timer always stall as it is hitting the OFF toggle?

If so, the motor is getting weak and the easiest is to replace he timer mechanism. There is usually s sticker on the inside of the door with the model number of the timer you have.

Post some pics of your timers if you need help.

Thank you everyone for quick responses. This morning timers worked fine. Will continue monitoring.

I usually get home when it's already dark. Will take pictures on the wiring during the weekend, during daylight hours.

My wife just checked on the timer. The picture was taken around 2pm local time and timer was showing the right time. However Pool Cleaner was still running. She also said when she manually turned off the Pool Cleaner, Filter got turned off too. I'm now quite confused :(

H,

We need to understand how the two timers are tied together.. At this point it does not make sense how turning off the cleaner timer would affect the filter timer.

We need to see pics with the covers off so that we can see the wiring of both timers.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Correction: my wife turned off the plug not the pool cleaner :laughblue:Sorry about the confusion.

Looks like today the pool cleaner didn't turn off when it suppose to be.

Will send pics when I can open the covers during the daylight, most likely on Saturday.

Thank you again to everyone who is willing to help

As the clock dial turns the OFF toggle needs to make contact with the ON/OFF lever and physically push it to the OFF position. When the wheel is bent or the where it strikes the lever has worn the toggle will slide by without moving the lever to off.

Sometimes you can twist the wheel a bit to have it make good contact. Or you can try replacing the OFF toggle. But chances are it will start missing again. The long term fix is to replace the worn out timer mechanism.

Here the pics from the timer with the cover off.

As I mentioned before - there were several occasions when both timers got behind. For example: around 6pm both timers were showing noon or something. However this doesn't happen every day...
