Abandoned Pool - Suggestions Please

Is it too late to change the shallow end to at least 3.5' (LOVE 4' depth to tell the truth and the transition to the 7' is slower as well)? 3' is too shallow for a good crawl stroke. Measure where 3' of water will hit you as well. Also is this water depth or from the floor to the bottom of the coping? VERY important difference as water depth is measured from the floor to half way up the skimmer face.

So, I'm a bit roundish when it comes to measurements (I know, doesn't make for the best construction) but if I remember correctly, our PB said the shallow end would be 3.5' deep (bottom to half-way up the waterline tile).

We have also decided to put in a seat in one of the corners at the deep end. I was concerned with getting in and out of the pool down there - and didn't want a ladder with the metal rail sticking out. PB suggested a seat - large enough to sit on and then step up and out, but small enough to not be intrusive.

That is good news about the depth. I LOVE the idea of the corner seat/step. I would even think about both corners getting one.

Quite a busy week. Started installing rebar, had a fire delay, finished installing rebar, finished shotcrete, and starting framing for coping. Check here for new (and old) pics. Happy Tuesday, everyone.

Ahhh so exciting! I loved following this thread from start to here.

I am also a symmetry person. We did two walk out 11" Roman steps at each end of our pool (to feed my OCD, among other practical reasons, lol) and I LOVE the overall lines.

The fires came THAT close to you???? HOW SCARY!!!

That looks awesome!! Now start bonding with it aka watering it. You can use a sprinkler or 3 to help you water it. This will help slow down the curing and help it be stronger!

Ladies & Gentlemen . . . We have a POOL! The pictures aren't great (with these short days, I'm usually leaving and getting home when it's dark). Will take the drone up to get some aerial shots, but I can't believe it's here. We're going to sit back and look at it for a bit, and then on to landscaping. Thank you to everyone for the advice and hand-holding (oh, it's not over yet). I'm not sure we would have brought this pool back to life it not for this site. I've added more pictures to the album (link in my signature).

Our contractor has a great eye and made suggestions we hadn't even thought about (with regard to tile placement and pool functionality - not everything was a change order ). It's estimated at 50k gallons, will have a better idea when the water bill comes in (yikes). As for testing, we'll be starting this week - in order for our warranty to be in full effect, the first 30-days maintenance/chemicals/etc. must be performed by the installer. Looking forward to summer!

I admit, I had to skip some of the middle this morning. But I refreshed my memory about this project then skipped to the last couple pages. What a great end to a great story. And what an amazing looking pool you ended up with. It sounds like it was all done as it should have been done, no shortcuts. You'll be thankful for that in years to come. I have a similar step/bench in my deep end. I like it a lot. Love your colors. Great job, congratulations!!

Thank you, everyone for your support, encouragement, and advice. Looking forward to warm weather and our first pool party. The teen boy may have already dove in - and jumped immediately out - something about the 50F water temp, but he was all smiles. Pool reno - $$$; memories - priceless.

Here is a "spoil them" tip-throw some towels in the dryer to warm them up good. THEN put them in a cooler to keep them warm. Let the kids jump in and have the towel ready to wrap them up!

Did you get a SWG? If you did make sure to have everyone in the pool when it comes time to add the salt. We call that "Diamond Day"! The salt looks so pretty as it floats down. Everyone swimming will help mix up the salt and will make more memories!

So, with the pool done, there are A LOT of ancillary items we hadn't considered (don't know why, just hadn't). We've since purchased the brushes and skimmer nets and water temp gauge. What are some of everyone's, "I wish I had gotten this sooner"? or "oh, she doesn't know she needs this"?
