WOW What a learning experience... so far.

Pour slowly in front of return. Quart measuring cup. 2 qts= 4parts FC. I get 2.5 Gal or 5 Gal. I have spouts and lids from Anyone purchased refillable chlorine? Container choice?

I did find a spout on amazon with a tube for letting air in that I have not used yet. If you go thru the other site might as well get 4 of each since shipping doesn't change. I cracked a lid and I am glad I bought 4. Budds does have nice wrenches for the lids.

Interesting. How often are you pouring?

BTW... The pool finally got down to about 15" of water. Began refill about 30 min ago. Ideally if the pool can be filtering by the morning then tomorrow evening I should be able to start the SLAM. I am going to test CYA when the pool is about half full and that should give me an indication of how much the CYA has dropped. Worst case I can waste out more.

During swim season you should be adding liquid chlorine daily. Use tablets/pucks when you are going to be away from the pool for more than a couple days. Test CYA when you return to adjust your target FC.

You can hook up the vacuum and put a hose in the skimmer if you want to run the pump. The incoming water in the skimmer will seal the vac plate.

And I pour daily when I get home from work.

Ok here we go... This is where I stand at the moment...

FC - 0
CC - 0
PH - 7.2
TA - 130
CH - 110
CYA - 45-50

Time to SLAM!

Now... I want to be 100% sure about this. I currently have a handful of bags of shock. The ingredients are...

Active
Cal Hypo 68.0%
Other - 32.0%
Available Chlorine Content - 65.0%

The brand is Mega pool and spa. Does this chock have CYA in it? I cannot tell by anything on the bag. If I need to I will run out and grab bleach.

Thanks!

EDIT: I just read that Cal Hypo does not have CYA. BOOM! Here we go!

You can use the cal hypo. But I would suggest switching to liquid chlorine as soon as you can get some. Cal hypo will add calcium to your pool water. Not a big deal right now but eventually it can be an issue. It also can sit on the liner of your pool and bleach out the color. Be sure you mix it in well.

Definitely. Really appreciate the info and help from everyone. In the morning I will test and see where I am.

Obviously I cannot start the OCLT tonight so tomorrow I think I can do that. Between the morning and night... I should be testing the FC/CC and determining if I need to add more until it turns dark?

No reason to do a OCLT until your pool water is crystal clear, you are not getting any dead algae debris buildup in the pool, and your FC loss is minimal throughout the day.

With that much water exchange this should go quick. Maintain SLAM level for a couple days and then see what things look like.

Morning test is as follows...

FC - 23.6
CC - 1

Last night after adding in the bleach (Cal Hypo) the pool turned super cloudy. Which is something I have not seen in a long time. This year anytime I have shocked the pool it would just remain crystal clear. I assume this is the chlorine finally being able to do its job?

I did a backwash and the water that came out was something I've never seen before. I've seen green before but the color that came out was yellow/gold/brown. Almost the color of apple juice.

If you add liquid chlorine BE SURE to NOT add anything with any additives in it! Chlorox usually has extra goodies in it that are fine for your laundry but bad for your pool!

Generally, store-brand cheapo bleach is fine or home store/pool store liquid chlorine.

Yep I didn't do liquid chlorine. I did cal-hypo shock at 68%. IDK what was in that water/filter before but its out now.

I've been looking at store brand bleach and most of them do not show the %. I called my pool store to see if they still have any liq chlorine left but if they don't I need a backup. Suggestions?
