Vinyl Liner Pool Build in PA

Hello,

Been lurking around for awhile now as we went through the process of thinking about a pool, interviewing pool builders and then signing our contract. Forum has been an awesome resource during our decision making. Lots of great information! Especially helpful when we were debating our liner choices.

Excavation was last Friday, pool was delivered today and they will begin building the structure tomorrow. Hoping for a smooth process and good weather. Here are some of the specs.

18'x'34'36' Lagoon Shape Vinyl Liner
23,100 Gallons
Pentair VSF Pump
Pentair Clean and Clear 420 sq. ft. cartridge filter
Pentair MasterTemp 300,000 BTU NG Heater
IntelliCenter w/IC40
Prowler 930 Robotic Cleaner

Looks like a fantastic setting. Ok, but you aren't fooling us with that grass so green and lush it looks fake. Kind of like 70's shag in green.

I also like the equipment selections. Not to be the buzz kill, but have you ordered your winter cover yet?

What type of fencing are you going with?

And show us your liner selection! And decking choice?
 
I would up the sizing on the heater to atleast 400,000 btu. Better to have more. In your part of the country you will need it if you want to swim early and prolong the season. Also with this shape you can't have an auto cover to retain the heat.

LOL, it was hard to watch them tear up the lawn but I know the end result will be even better.

Winter cover is in the process of being ordered. Pool should be done just in time to close it up for the winter. We are going with a black aluminum fence.

We decided on the grey mosaic liner from Latham. We started off thinking we wanted a deep blue. Then we started seeing the water color of the tan and grey liners that made us change our mind. Ultimately went with the grey. We really like the water color it creates. For our deck we are going with charcoal grey paver coping and concrete.

The builders came today and installed the walls and did some plumbing. Had our first hiccup. Wrong steps were delivered. Need ones for the cantilever coping. The correct ones should only take a few days to get in. Coming back tomorrow to work on the equipment pad and the electrician comes on Friday.

I like the sounds of those choices. If you can be there when they layout the pad, it’s nice to tell them that you want it spaced nicely and plumbed neatly. They may get annoyed but you can probably do it in a nice way. Many get plumbed and setup to tight.

Had some progress this week. Electrician hooked up equipment, electric to lights and extra outlet where we are putting additional concrete deck. Plumbing is done, only thing we are waiting on is heater so that can get installed. Should be here soon. Correct steps came in and they were installed. Tomorrow they are pouring concrete collar around base of pool. Hoping things continue to go smooth and the good weather continues.

Are you loving the grey steps? I think I love mine more everyday. lol! I can't wait for the liner though - I'll admit I am a bit nervous to see it fully installed. But really loving the grey compared to white on the steps!

We really do! We didn't want the white steps either. Once we decided on the grey mosaic liner it made sense to go with the grey steps. Like you , we are still nervous about the liner, but all the pictures we have seen of it on here look great!

We have a 250K heater with our 20 x 40 (about 25K-26K gallon) pool here in Ottawa and it is perfectly adequate (well, we need a new heater now, but it did fine when it was working lol). We keep it heated to 86 degrees. We swim from May through mid to late October.

I think it will be fine for our application as well. I plan on using a solar cover at night also.

It is quite an older pool (30 years). From pictures I'be seen of older vermiculite it doesn't seem to be that. It isn't porous seeming like that. I could be wrong. The pool guy who did our liner this year referred to it as concrete (he's been in the business for decades), but maybe he just called it that thinking I wouldn't know any other name.

I walked around on it when the liner was being done and it felt very hard and smooth like any other cement surface (not like how I'be heard vermiculite being described as almost spongy feeling).

I don't know what the common methods would have been here in Ottawa 30 years ago (I don't even know what is common here in Ottawa now since I'be never built a new pool - just working with the pre-existing one at the place we bought).
