Well, after my liner replacement, I worked on getting my salt and CYA back to normal as fast as possible, and I made kind of a critical error. I didn't check the alkalinity of the replacement water, and my pH shot up to over 8 very quickly. Before the water change, I'd beat my alkalinity back down to about 90 and my pH was very stable. I didn't think about the feed water being over 210, and pH was swinging wildly. After a couple of days I noticed the "Cell Maint" light on, and looking through the clear end cap of my RJ60+ cell found that it had just scaled up solid. It was almost completely plugged.
So, today I mixed about 10 oz of 31.45 Muriatic acid into 50 oz of water, capped the cell, and filled 'er up. I wasn't expecting it to be such a vigorous reaction (although I had it contained in a 5 gal bucket) or to take as long as it did. That sucker boiled and fumed for over 30 minutes like this. The cell is nice and clean now. Hopefully after getting my alk/pH problem in hand it will stay that way for awhile. I had no idea how fast it could go south when the chemistry isn't right, so this was another valuable learning experience!
