It looks like it's not covered unless you expressly opted for additional coverage for it.

We had the same home warranty company for about 20 years and for different houses. When we moved into this house the seller included a home warranty with the company that he had been using. It was AWFUL, they didn't cover a dang thing that we called about, and when we DID call they made us sit on hold for two hours every time. We gave up with them and went back to our tried and true home warranty company that always covered everything we ever called about (even things we thought really shouldn't have been covered).

Yeah, it's worded weird. I would call them and question them. How are heaters "covered" but "not covered"???
Then when they explain it away, I would tell them to escalate it and you want to talk to their supervisor. Then question them some more.

It sounds like they are going to cover it. Not only that but their required vendor is able to get parts for the heater still. So - we'll see if they can get it fixed! They said the only parts they tested and had concerns with were the main control board and potentially the temp sensor on the incoming water line. They're doing the control board first to see if that fixes it.

Yep - they just swapped the control board out today and it's working. We'll see how warm it gets the pool!

Never posted an update on the pool heater. Ran it for about 24 hours straight and it got the pool from around 70 to around 90. Not bad.

Of course we immediately started letting it cool down afterward because swimming season is pretty much over here. Had a warm day today and yesterday but after that highs are in the low 60s and lows in the high 40s. So - time to close.

I've been doing my research. The one thing I'm concerned about is how to blow out the lines. I have a weak shop-vac (over the bucket style) and a strong leaf blower. We'll see if that does it or if I have to go rent an air compressor from Home Depot or some such thing. I plan to drain below the returns, but can't drain below the side suction line as that would be too low and the vinyl liner might shift. I'll put the pump on the steps to be sure it doesn't drain down too far. I'll just have to try capping the suction side line with air bubbling out and hope for the best I guess....

I enjoyed reading through your thread just now. Looks great!

Two comments. Have you started using hairnets on your skimmers? You have a lot of organic debris and I'm sure a fair amount is making its way to the filter. Skimmer basket openings are big compared to debris. Also, the quicker you can get debris to your skimmers before it sinks, the less will be on the bottom. Although for most things your 1HP pump is just fine, I'm not sure if it's providing you with the speed of surface flow you need to capture stuff before it sinks. Altering surface flow via the returns to obtain a circular flow also helps. Ping pong balls provide a nice visual of what's happening.

Thanks - but I’ll try the $30 rental air compressor first, and see if that will do it. $300 for a once-a-year tool seems tough to swallow.

We closed ok. I don’t feel 100% confident the lines are completely clear but hopefully I got enough water out.

We redirected the water from the waste as well. Old path is red, new path is blue.

Good job! It's easier to swallow if you're coming from paying someone $300 per year to close. Or if you need piece of mind that the air flow is strong enough.
