I posted this few years ago but didn’t get much input. Your closing your pool - it’s all vacuum and ready for slamming and algae 60 if you use it. I think if your using algae 60 this trick will work for sure. It’s only for filter cartridges or if you can by pass the sand & DE filter. Take out the filters and run pump with chemicals! I noticed using Alg 60 most of the chemicals get into the filter and not in pool water.

I think my pool closing guys pour the Polyquat 60 into the water after they turn the pump off. Then they churn the water up some while they get the solid cover on. Seems to work fine.

That’s even better. After what I saw in the filters after running with A-60. They looked clogged. Going to need a bigger paint stick to stir. Lol

Use your pool brush to stir the water.

I dilute, disperse and use the brush to help mix in any residuals. I always did that after removing all the equipment for some reason. Your way seems much easier and I’m a huge fan of easier. Thanks.

I Don’t have a brush. I never have anything on floor or walls. Only leaves. I may go around the water line with Clorox and sponge. I do keep C level at 3 -4 mostly 4 & 5 after kids swimming.

You will just have to improvise and chop a branch off one of your trees and use it as a brush.

I use my former home sump pump(I replace the home pump every 4-5 years) to circulate the chemicals when my filter is shut down. Occasionally during the summer when I need to slam; I use to same pump. Just run the pump withoutany pvc attached

How about when your opening your pool to green water. This I haven’t tried. Since I have cartridge filters, I’m thinking to leave them out for spring opening if pool water is green and slam it first until green is gone then put filters in ? That would save my filters a little longer. Do you think pool water will clean up without filters ?

The chlorine kills the algea but it’s still there, just dead. Needs to be filtered eventuality either way. Vacuuming to waste would bypass the filter without removing it. Plus I crack my filter open mid June to clean all the pollen off. I (and probably you being so close) get more gunk the first few weeks than the rest of the season combined.

This is true. You get more junk the first week when opening. I was thinking after running the pump all week without filter just vacuum and dump water out. I have to do anyway. I can’t vacuum through my Pentair SR filter. Found that out the first year. I called Pentair and they say that pump shutdown as soon as you try to vacuum so I made my own vacuum with a 3/4 hp pump. Every time I vacuum it gets dumped out.

Either way works but if you have to vaccuum a lot you also have to fill a lot, But with your 60k gallons it will make less of a dent.
