Hi all, I know you should take of balancing before starting SLAM however I didn't. I'm wondering if doing a partial drain and refill is an issue? I'm running a Hayward 4030 cartridge (430 sq ft) in a 14000 gallon pool with spillover spa. The previous owner had been using pucks and I foolishly continued since my previous pools have been SWG. Once a week the pool would accumulate some yellowy algae/pollen/dirt. I live in SoCal and back onto a hill so I wasn't totally sure if it's algae or just a pollen/dirt mixture. After a brushing and a shot of liquid bleach the pool would be clear again by the next day but I was doing this once a week. With my wife travelling this week i figured it was a good time to try SLAM. I ordered the k-2006 but before it arrived I started hitting the pool based on the chart and assuming a pretty high CYA. The pool looked clearer by the next day. My kit arrived on day 2 and my first test showed FC 22, CC 1, TA 120, CH 380 and CYA 120.
I used the calculator and added 4 1/2 gallons of chlorine (HDX 10%). I've been maintaining the high FC for a couple days nows, and last night I was around 34 or 36 FC (it was really dark out) and CC was .5. This morning FC was 31 and CC was .5 still. I added another 2 gallons of chlorine this morning to bring FC back up. I'd like to lower my CYA and CH with a water exchange. Sorry for the novel!
