So... I am 10 weeks into the new (to me) salt/chlorine generator system... and, all is good.
I have not brushed or shocked the pool in 10 weeks. The water chemistry is *very* *very* stable... I've been testing 2 to 3 times per week.
I run my pump (single speed) 5 hrs a day (2pm-7pm). This covers about 90% of actual usage 'swim time'.
The Chlorine generator runs @ 60% (desired output) for 5 hrs a day.
Salt One (1) 40lbs bag per month
Free Chlorine 4.0 - Chlorine generator
pH 7.4 - DIY Acid Injector (I load it every two (2) weeks
Cyanuric Acid 40 - About one (1) lbs every two (2) weeks in an old sock and thrown into the skimmer (it completely dissolves in about 24 hrs).
I load the Acid (Muriatic) tank and the Acid (Cyanuric) sock the same day.

Cheers to *Trouble Free Pool* and it's AWESOME members!

Salt does not leave the pool unless you backwash your filter a lot or rains and need to drain. So you only add salt to keep your SWG happy.
Cyanuric Acid 40 - About one (1) lbs every two (2) weeks in an old sock and thrown into the skimmer (it completely dissolves in about 24 hrs).
Same goes for CYA, it does not leave your pool unless you remove water. Normal levels for a SWG is 70-80ppm. so you are low on that.

If you watch the rain patterns in his area you will find there is a LOT of rain often so this may be his truth. I have to add CYA about 3 times a year here in FL and I think they get am much if not more rain than we do here in N.E. FL.
