This year I haven’t use algae 60. I did when I open the pool but water been looking really clean with no sign of algae. My question is - I keep the TC at 5 FC 5 all the time. It never drops lower due to I’m retired and check everyday. After ever weekend when kids leave I shock it ! When it rains - I shock it ! After the kids use the pool for the day - I shock it ! I have the sta rite 140 filter system. Don’t laugh but I remove those filter every two weeks and I have back up filters. That the used ones and clean and let sit in cascade dish washing # 12 power and will use these filters in two weeks. Conduction a weekly scrubbing of pool, floors, walls, and steps.
Testing the water and balancing it every day. Back to my question??? Is algae control needed? Thanks. Marty D

Is algae control needed?
Alage control in the way you've been doing it (algecides, extra shocking, etc) is not needed as long as your water is always balanced according to the FC/CYA Levels. It's when the FC drops below the minimum for your CYA that algae occurs. A little FC increase (2-4 ppm) after the kids are in the water all day probably isn't a bad idea simply because kids tend to bring (or leave) stuff in the water. You can save the algaecide for winter closing. :swim:

Thanks—- most are trying to get rid of algae. It’s the FC at 5 that’s keeping algae away. Cool !!! Thanks again.

Start reading and you'll be blessed with wisdom that no pool store can compete with...

I read that a few times. This week temperatures are in the 90s and next week mid 90s and pool water is 88 and rising. This is what made me think- maybe I should use Algae 60. Just to be safe. More I think about it- I going away for two week and the person who checking on pool has no clue. So- I’m going to do something that you guys on here will not like. Lol. I got 4 floaters and two submarines. Total of 20 3 inch tabs. I will shock the pool before I leave and put in 2 qt of algae 60. My CYA is 20. I left it low for this reason. This is all I can do- that I know of.
