Chlorinator question

So I have a Summer Waves pool with an Intex sand filter hooked up to it, I was curious about the best method for getting the chlorine in the pool. I was thinking of chlorinator but I know absolutely nothing about them and I'm not even sure if it's a hook up for an above ground pool. in the past I had an older model Summer Waves pool that I never upgraded the filter and it was a pain in the Rear, it was running 24/7 but I would keep the chlorine tablet in the skimmer basket and it would keep the levels just right for me. I'm trying to figure out the best method for going about distribution of chlorine in the pool since the sand filter will not be running 24/7. I'm not trying to go broke either doing this so if somebody could help me figure out one of the more cheap but not cheapest methods I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

How big is this pool? If it's the smallest of the bunch, dumping the water is a cheap option so you could use a tablet floater and just empty the thing when it got too out of whack.

I manage a 16,000 gallon pool with high-strength pool chlorine I get in returnable refillable jugs. Costs me less than a buck a day for chemicals.

It's the 14 x 42 pool, it says it's approximately 3,512 gallons

Are you saying empty the entire pool? Because that's exactly what I'm not looking forward to doing I had to do that multiple times before I upgraded to the sand filter and I was hoping to avoid that at all cost.

Then you're going to have to maintain that water properly, like a larger pool. That means testing with a proper test kit and keeping up with the chemistry. A steady diet of pucks will lead to excessive CYA which usually leads to an algae bloom.

I see you using less than 2 cups of 10% pool chlorine every day and probably some acid every week. Maybe, depending on fill water, some baking soda. None of it is expensive. You probably still have some chlorine tablets to start off with to build the CYA.

A saltwater chlorine generator will chlorinate for you, but they're pricey compared to bleach.

The acid your talking about is that the pH up chemical I see in stores? And how would I calculate how much avoid and having soda to use and will one effect the other? Thanks for your help, I really want to get this down to avoid any issues this summer. Dealing with what I really with the past few seasons I felt like I started to get the hang of it but would still encounter minor algae growth on the button near the edge. Also, how often or when should I use shock for the pool?

No, either muriatic acid or "PH down"

I have a chlorinator to keep a steady chlorine feed going but keep it on low unless i am out of town.

I found one inyo sells called powerclean ultra and its a lot better then the haywards i have used in the past.
