Intex inlet converted to 1.5" hayward Leaking around the gasket? Ways to fix easily?

I have the intex pool setup that has worked well the last few years. When i switched to pvc pipe i think i had this issue, evident from the mass amount of silicone i have around the opening in the photo (which is now even more gooped up after other attempts to stop the continuous drizzle that is coming from the edges.

I opened the pool, filling it up, so fixing may have to result in lowering the water down below this point, unless there is some magic fix that can work from this backside of the pool.

Anyone have any suggestions or ideas on what parts i should look for to fix it?

looking at your photo, i see you used gas line teflon tape. dont know how that works on PVC. i think your gasket could be bad. i know on the part i just bought Amazon.com: Hayward SP1023 1-1/2-Inch FIP Inlet Return Fitting with Locknut and Gasket: Garden & Outdoor , i am thinking that it has two non rubber gaskets. i would have to go to shed to check it out for sure. That 90 that you used it not a schedule 40 ninety. that is more of a drain ninety. this is one like you really need. it is rated for a higher pressure Charlotte Pipe 1-1/2 in. PVC Sch. 40 90-Degree S x S Elbow-PVC023001400HD - The Home Depot
that is all that i see in the photo. where exactly is it leaking from? would it be possible to drain water down below that return, and patch it. then you could cut another hole in and redo it all? one other thing i was thinking, has it always leaked since you installed the PVC? if so, maybe your hole was a little too big. just throwing out thoughts.

That sp1023 you linked.. i think its the one i actually used, perhaps.. trying to go back through my build thread to determine (or go out tomorrow and measure the opening if i can). I dont think the pvc itself is leaking, but rather near the gasket, because as you said, its too big of a hole for this outlet gasket etc. I think originally i must have had the water down, and siliconed it while it was mostly dry, which is why it held for 1-2 seasons. Now thinking it was fine i filled it up and its got a steady leak, my attempts to add to it while leaking havent worked. I have one rubber gasket on the pool side and the other on the back side.. the one on the pool side appears to be twisted and not really flush (probably part of the issue), not sure if it twisted off when i took the pvc off a few days ago to repair the pvc side of things (had a crack in a valve so i had to rebuild part of it).

I guess maybe ill have to drain it down and put some type of larger rubber gasket, at least on the pool side behind the plastic or both sides?
I forgot how the two sides come apart as i took the eyelit off to try to fix the pool side twisted gasket but couldnt get it separated, i guess the two are screwed together so both ends need to come off.

edit: its definitely the 1023 hayward.. i found it in my build thread, first post :)
 
It would be best to drain under and remove, inspect the area and clean it, lube with silicone lube and reinstall. Most things like this leak from stuff in the rubber or a false torque on install causing it to be too loose but it can't tighten up anymore with sand in it.

The gas Teflon tape is probably fine, better to just redo it with regular Teflon or blue Teflon. Do not put tape on the bulkheads, just the pipe threads.

Yeah thats what im going to do.

I ordered another hayward part as the existing one might be too messy to clean off completely.

The issue is that the inlet hole from intex is wider than the hayward and gasket, supposedly if you just centered it better it would hold but i dont think over time this lasts.

What i think would be better is to find a wider gasket that would fit around it, but im not sure what diameter that would be, i guess 1.5" gasket but wider thickness around it, might have to just go to lowes and look around for one that looks wider?

I could put the silicone caulking around it again, but i'm also thinking of trying the white flex tape which is supposed to work well (after cleaning, put around the perimeter), then coat that with silicone (only on the outside of the pool)
 
See if you can find a 2" bulk head. I'm still using the old intex port and want to change to a regular pool style as well but I haven't looked for any yet.

Fix it right or you will be at it again, silicone and tape are not fixing it right.

Do you mean something like the hayward inlet fitting? But in 2" variety? If its 2" pvc though, ill have to down convert to connect on to my pipe, not a huge deal. I'd just worry that 2" might be a tad too big, but maybe not. Not sure which threading the eyeball has (its hayward) but maybe they are standard.

Ah yes true. I lost or got rid of the old intex one for comparison, but i do know or pretty sure the hayward eyeball only fit on that hayward fitting/bulkhead.

Not seeing much that is 2" bulkhead, at least similar to what is needed. edit: i do see this one, but i dont think its the right type, which i think this on ebay is the same but slightly cheaper.. i did see that it said 1.5" threads with 2" diameter, looks as if the hayward eyeball i have wouldnt work with it though since i have a female threaded hayward eyeball. Actually strike that, i think it came with the male portion (the eyeball did)

Yeah i guess that could also be slip joint, i saw the threads down in, but i guess thats not really meant to be screwed into from the backside, thats the front side i think.

Yep the price was cheap enough to take a shot at it. PVC is like adult legos :)
