Project in SE PA, bought a foreclosure w A&S pool

Not much info on this other than the house has been vacant for close to 4 years. Looks like an Anthony & Sylvan pool with a stone waterfall but no spa. Lets hope the shell is OK and it just needs new equipment.

I'm sure the water will need to be drained, etc. Hope to be a ready by spring. Fun times ahead!

There have been some great stories here about pools raised from the dead. Anything is possible with enough money or sweat.

When do you close on the house? Is there much work to be done inside the house?

We also bought a foreclosed house/property/pool. Took care of the house first then worked on the property THEN the pool. Ended up the pool was the easiest LOL

Went to settlement last Thursday so the house is ours. There is a huge tree that fell right by the pool equipment that missed all the important stuff and only took out the PVC plumbing. Who knows if anything works but somehow the pool will be up and running for summer unless there are major issues. Seems to be holding water so hopefully no terrible cracks.

Might be crazy but have to ask it anyway.....can an attached spa added? I know everything is possible and its only limited by money. But seriously, if it's not too expensive would it be possible to add a raised spa?

House needs a ton of work, literally every room will be a redo. It'll be like new construction when we are finished. Plan to move in as soon as school ends with a functioning pool. What fun would that be to move in but not have the pool working?

Also thinking of adding a full court basketball court while we are at it.

You could add a spa BUT I will tell you a stand alone spa is much better in that it is oh so comfy and has jets in all of the right places. You could have it right by the pool so the pool and spa people can hop back and forth as well as chat.

Do you have any clue how deep the pool is?

There are pool renovation threads of folks adding a spa to their pool. It requires an extensive renovation with new plumbing, tile, and plaster. If your pool end up needing it then it is a possibility.

A standalone spa will be available to you all year round. The seating can be more comfortable and you can have better jets.

Have you ever been in a gunite spa before??? If not, I would advice you to try one before you "buy" one.. My guess is that gunite spas are the most oversold and yet most underused items in all of pooldum.. There is no doubt that make a great visual impression, but they are as comfortable as a concrete bench in a city park. Some people love them, but they are the exception rather than the rule.. Get what you want of course, but just make sure you know what it is that you are buying..

This is actually the 4th home we've had with a pool. All but one pool had a spa. We love it, and use the spa more than the pool itself. If for no reason other than it's warmer! I've been in a fiberglass spa/hot tub once in my life. Wouldn't be opposed to one but it needs to look the part and not stick out like a sore thumb next to this pool.

We can pretty up the outside of the standalone so it does not stick out too much. There are lots of ideas out there!

Yes, thats me. That 31 Bert was about 10 years ago by now? Since then about 5 other random boats and come and gone.

Hypothetically speaking, assuming all the equipment except for the heater needs to be replaced, with new plumbing thanks to the tree. What can I expect this to cost?

My guess would be $5K for two new VS pumps and a new filter installed... I would add automation and a SWCG for another $2K installed.

Despite it being in the mid 30s yesterday they spent the day trying to clean up the back yard a little bit. You have to look hard to see any progress but it's a step in the right direction. The huge tree that fell and took out the pool equipment plumbing is gone and they removed a lot of branches, brush, etc.

30’s is great weather to work outside if you can wear gloves. It keeps you from sweating so much! I just came inside.
