Acid pump options - DIY - Stenner - or? (settled on Pentair Acid Tank w/Pump)

I measured the space and I only have room for a 14" diameter tank in that corner. A rectangular tank like the 5 gal carboy posted by spoonman would easily fit in the 19"x14" free space.

I am still thinking of rigging up a fitting for a 1 gallon jug. Worst case if it doesn't work I could then upgrade to a larger tank or carboy. I have at least till next spring to think this through, so I could certainly change my mind between now and then.

If you try the jug, then that sounds like you'd need to commit to a Stenner pump. Which wouldn't preclude the use of the IntellipH tank, just the IntellipH tank and pump idea...
 
Before measuring the space I contacted Pentair to see what the actual dimensions for the tank and base are. They sent me a drawing showing the base is just under 14" x 14" and the tank is smaller than that. The pump overhangs the base a bit...

Based on the drawing it would just fit in my space...:scratch:
 
Yep, those numbers sound about right. Would it fit in the exact opposite corner? The reason I ask: remember, periodically you'll need to get to it, get the lid off, pour in the acid, and close it up. Plus the annual maintenance. Mine is in an OK spot, but I wish it was more in the open when I am handling the acid. You'll need a little room to work, along with the space the Dirk-o-Matic Safety Suit will take up (approximately the size of an EVA suit).

Do a little visualization before you bolt it down. And/or leave yourself some slack in the delivery and vent tubes in case you want to move it later.

It would fit right where I drew that red rectangle a few posts ago - I have 14"x19" free area there.

That area has a concrete walkway a bit lower along the retaining wall so I can get to the area pretty easily as needed. I am surprised it would fit into the space I have to be honest.

Based on the drawing (shown below for anyone looking in the future), I think the Pentair tank with the attached pump is the best solution. It will only cost about the same as getting a stand alone Stenner pump and it means I don't have to try rigging up some sort of home made tank that may or may not work.

I think my original idea, while an OK idea, it isn't the best solution at all.
 
What the...! I said I'd walk if the idea didn't work. I didn't say anything about you selling the idea if it does!! Now if you want to talk about commission or finder's fee or something... ;)

This is some helpful information here, I appreciate the dimensions of the pentair tank. I'm thinking of getting the pentair tank WITHOUT the pump and ordering the Stenner EconT since it has the built in timer feature. Does anyone know if the stenner Econ T will fit on the 4 screw mounting plate on the pentair tank? I am not sure about fitting the Stenner Econ T Pump to the Pentair tank - when I looked at other pumps the Pentair tank with the pump was almost the same price as just a Stenner pump, so I stopped looked at other options.

Hopefully someone can answer your question. At the point I get this tank I can certainly provide some measurements of the hole pattern for the pump mounting. However, that wont be for several weeks at this point.
 
Shouldn't matter too much where you mount the pump, but if you're determined to mount it to the tank, and the holes don't align, it wouldn't take much to fabricate an "adapter" plate. Don't laugh, I've used those cheap, plastic cutting boards for similar pool-related fabrication projects. The material is strong, easy to work with, and seems to be impervious to pool chemicals. And their cheap.

Cut to the right-sized rectangle, then drill four holes to match the tank's hole pattern, and another set to match the pump's. SS nuts and bolts, done. I've used nylon bolts, too, which, if not supporting too much weight, have the added advantage of better acid resistance than metal hardware. Like so.
 
It is almost spring, and I now have the Pentair acid tank and pump on order.

Once it arrives I will set aside some time to get this unit installed and hooked up to my Jandy automation...

More details and pictures will be posted once I get things going. Wish me luck! :whoot:
