Bad news about VS motor/pump

Hi everyone, well my situation does not look real good. My Hayward SP2300VSP(now discontinued) appears to be bad. Last night we were not home till late, lots of lighting strikes, came home to no power. This morning pump was not running. Had 240V at the motor terminals, so everything up to that point is good. This model does not have the internal timer. There is a mech timer on the wall that turns on the 240V for the pump and SWG panel together. The pump is completely dead. The new MAX Flo VS pump SP2303VS has an internal timer. Does anyone have suggestion on recommended ways to hook up to control the pump and SWG togerther? Can I still use my exsisting arrangement?

Ordered new mtr pmp. Using my sump pmp to circulate the water during the day and using bleach until new assy arrives.

I know the vfd is single phase in

Got new Hayward Sp2303 Vsp pump on Friday. Installed and everything back to normal.

It's a three phase motor. The single phase AC is converted into DC, which is then switched on and off in a way that creates a digital three phase AC voltage of a frequency determined by the rpm setting.

Thanks. I know how vfds work. Not trying to be an ***. Hayward told me it was a DC motor, which I said BS. They do make a single phase in single phase out.
Once I installed new pump I tjen had a chance to disassemble the drive. There is a PCB mounted internally to the back of tje motor. The motor is German made by Hanning. They also make the VFD which is proprietary

Thats a great point on surge protection. That was my first reaction afyer it happened. I have yet to find time to research one. Thanks for the link. BTW where did you imstall yours.

I installed two. One at the houses main panel to protect everything in the house and the second, I installed at the pool panel to protect the pump drive. I used this one:

Square D by Schneider Electric HEPD80 Home Electronics Protective Device - Circuit Breakers - Amazon.com

This is a type 1 device which offers a little bit more protection than a type 2 but both are sufficient.

You can get them from HD for $75 w free delivery on sale...I installed 2 of them, one at each 200amp panel and a flush mounting kit bc my panels are in sheetrock. These SPD's have 80000 amp protection while most others top out btw 20-30K amps...so you get 2-3 times the protection.
