Early question but.. Safety/winter covers necessary?

I know this is very early as we just hit summer but are winter/safety covers really necessary other than the safety/debris aspect?

Does winter damage the liner more in winter than in summer if its not covered?

The reason I ask is that I have a single track on my liner pool so I would need to drill into my pavers for anchor points. I would need to figure a way to support a cover on the long side of the pool as I have a waterfall that I don't want to drill into (perhaps a cable type system to provide tension)

Winter covers mainly prevent debris from falling in the pool over the winter when water levels are too low to run the pump. How much snow do you get? The covers also prevent snow from re-filling the pool.

I dont know anyone in snow country who leaves a residential pool closed and uncovered in the winter.

I like a solid cover and have a pump on it to clear water off.

I have anchors drilled into my pavers and a cable used around my spa walls.

The last couple of years I've not put a cover on my pool when closing for winter. My old cover had developed so many holes and tears it wasn't worth it any more.

That said, my pool is in an area where I don't get a lot of leaves and stuff. I just run my robot cleaner once a day after closing until it gets too cold. I do get some leaves in the pool when opening but it's not that bad.

I've been wondering the same thing, but we live in Louisiana....where we could almost swim year 'round, lol. I think we are leaning towards no cover except for maybe a solar cover to help warm the pool and keep leaves out during the fall. We have no trees in the backyard, but the leaves from the trees in the front as well as neighboring trees seem to collect around our back patio area in the fall.

Very different situation in LA then in the North where we need to winterize the pool to keep it being damaged from freezing.
