Taking it to the next level looking for advice

Greetings all, we currently have an AGP for the past 5 seasons. At the moment I am dealing with a leak in the liner. Found about a 1/2” year in the bottom center. Fixing this today but the location has me really considering just replacing the liner.

A liner replacement would be about a grand all said and done. Since this was our first pool I went above ground for two reasons, one being cost and the other being a stepping stone to see how we liked pool ownership. If it didn’t work out just remove it add a little top soil and grass seed and we are back to where we started.

Before dropping a grand on this particular set up my wife and I took some time to re-assess our likes and dislikes with the current pool. My main concern was the profile being too high out of the ground. We already had a large deck and I added to it to extend to the pool but this is now the highest point on the deck. I would like it to be no more than 2’ above grade. A full in ground would be nice as well but one concern is that during heavy rains we can end up with a small river running through the yard and I don’t want to overflow into the pool.

The other thing would be the shape of the pool. If we went partial I ground I would prefer a more rectangular pool. Considering a fiberglass pool as well but have no idea on cost. The tear in the vinyl liner has me a bit spooked about vinyl lined pools in general.

As far as size I am not looking for anything too big maybe 16x28 ish. Depth of like 5’.

If you can fix the tear in the liner, I'd say there is no reason to replace the pool outside of you wanting a different pool


Most of this is just your personal preferences, but I'll say that you need to be careful with essentially putting your above ground
pool below ground. I know most in ground pool filters have a vent to open that will allow you to bleed the air out of the system since
the water level is physically below the pump. Off the top of my head I can't remember if you can get an above ground pool pump to
prime when the water level is below the pump itself.

May not be an issue at all, just make sure.

Yeah it really wasn’t about using the existing pool or equipment. More of a if we want to make any changes nows the time to do it.

Slathered up a patch this morning but don’t have much confidence in the longevity of it. Might buy us the remainder of the season but that’s about it.

I obviously don’t like the current pool set up enough to drop a grand on a new liner that’s why I made this post. The pool I think I want is probably more than I am willing to spend. May just scrap the whole idea.
