I need a new filter. The Hayward filter I'm looking at (cartridge 120sq ft) has two versions, one with 1.5" fittings and one with 2" fittings. I have a small pool and I know 1.5" size would be plenty for this pool, but I'm thinking about the future and was wondering if I should get the 2" version and just buy some 2" to 1.5" adapters for right now, or am I overthinking things.

Thanks.

C,

If your current pool plumbing is 1.5" that is what I would use... It won't hurt anything to use the 2" plumbing at the pad, but it will not be of any real value, as all the underground plumbing will still be 1.5"..

Thanks for posting,

Jim R.

Couldn't figure out where signature is to fill out.. I have a 15ft intex Bought an intex sand filter two years ago. Worked fine the first year Last year couldn't get it clear no matter what I tried Bought Hayward 120 Sq ft cartridge filter Went with two inch fittings Will just make adapter to convert to1. 5 inch. Going to use Game adapters and refuse Intex hose for right now. Thanks.

Well then there was a problem in your filter. But historically the Intex sand filters have been pretty good. So I don't want you to think that getting a new filter is going to suddenly keep your pool clear without proper chemistry

Understand. I took that filter apart, couldn't find anything wrong with it,even checked the spider gasket. Maybe it is channeling for some reason. I don't know. I just gave up. Maybe I'll try again to figure out what it wrong with the old filter. But like you say this will determine one way or the other. If it clears up,it was the filter. If it doesn't, it is chemistry. Thanks

Well, that still begs the question. How are you maintaining your chemistry?
What test kit are you using?

Would seem prudent to make sure the chemistry aspect is not ignored from the beginning.
