Vinyl 18x36 on the way. Here is the gameplan!

Ordered from Pool Warehouse, Polymer wall 18x36 rectangle. Reading up and trying to plan. Came up with this sequence of events for my DIY project.
1. Layout for overdig
2. Excavate 42" shelf
3. Layout pool walls & secure
4. Dig hopper
5. Pour concrete footer
6. Install Plumbing and Electrical /Bonding
7. Backfill with #57 stone
8. Install concrete form for coping and pour pool deck
9. Install PoolKrete
10. Install Liner
11. Fill w/ Water
12. Adjust water chemistry / salt
13. Jump in!

Anything I am missing?

It sounds so easy doesn't it? When I had mine dug they did the full excavation at once, then we put up the walls. If you need to pour a pad for the equipment do that when you do the footer.

I was thinking if I put the walls up and secured with rebar that it would be easier to base my hopper off the actual walls but that part definately not a big deal , i'll probaly enjoy digging so much I'll just keep going once i get started anyways. And YES it sounds so easy but i am well schooled in the DIY 2x the budget and do half of everything twice. I actually think this project I have planned more than any other from start to finish so all of my tools are standing by for pool delivery. My 7 day Off work stretch starts next Tuesday so i'll be praying for good weather since I have rental equip lined up and helper scheduled. I also have my 15 yr old out of school so he's gonna get a grade rod lesson and put some math to use! I'm gonna double check of course. As an engineer I don't trust anybody else anyways. HAHA his labor is really just for my enjoyment since he has never seen a hay field or tobacco field! This is gonna be a rude awakening.

It's Underway. Shallow end and pool wall shelf done. Now digging hopper for deep end. 12" of topsoil and then good ol red clay. I dont think i even need a liner lol.

Storm on the way today so called it early. Starting putting panels up but these are gonna be harder than expected to get lined up, plumb, and level. I think I only said Screw This about 5 times today.
I had a good friend helping on first dig day spreading as I dug and my 15 yr old with grade rod. Got alot done. My help for today didnt show up till about 12 so I worked alone for about 4 hours which makes for very slow progress.

both my 15 and 11 yr old were great help first day. But slept in this morning so since he didnt live up to his end of the deal , 15 yr old didn't get to go hang with the girlfriend this afternoon. #dadstartswork at 6:30 not 9:30.

I did the full excavation first, and it was not fun. The main issue I had was rain...two massive thunderstorms 48 hours apart and when it gets muddy, things just get so much worse. I dug it with a skid steer and you just can't get in/out. I finally got my dig completed Thursday and got a gravel base in on Friday, which has helped because thunderstorm #3 (yesterday) didnt really slow me down much on wall install. You and I look to be on the same timeline. We are going a custom liner route, so Im betting on you swimming before I do!

Working regular job today so hoping to get the deep end rough excavation done this evening/tomorrow. started installing walls yesterday down one side but i'm an inch high in the middle. trying to figure out whether i should keep going and shim up the rest to match that or take walls down, shave it down and redo the walls. I trying to figure out if i'm being to precise.

This wet weather is killing me. Ive invested $250 in tarps with hopes this will save my work and allow more work between rain showers

You are moving along alright in spite of the rain, good learning experience for your boys as well. I would try to get the middle lower rather than shim all the others up if you can without too much trouble.

Yes Sseaman, we removed the walls and dialed in the grade throughout. Gonna try to set walls and pour concrete with good weather first of the week.

Need some help! put up all my walls and steps. measured 100 times squaring everything as i went. the pool is perfectly 18' across. but i'm 3/4” long on 36' dimension on both sides so its not a squre problem. Hydrapool polymer panels have no noticeable gaps that would clearly show why its longer. I see no way to fix this as the error accumulates as you go down each wall. Is my liner gonna fit?

Measure each panel. Maybe there is something weird and one of the panels is longer than another

I would do some tap, tap, tap to make sure each and every panel is seated just right as well as do what SBall suggests. That is a very good idea SBall!

don't forget to check your diagonals according to your drawing for square. Have somebody help you hold the tape to get an accurate measurement. Also, check to make sure your panels are level in the vertical direction as well. If you are further out at the top then the bottom it will throw off your measurements.

If your diagonals are good then set up a string line on your batter boards. The string line should tell you which panel is bowing on you.

I also highly highly recommend using a laser level and check every single panel for level in conjunction with your your bubble level. when I installed my pool I set a half inch by 1.5 foot pin at the finished height of my walls. I used that to setup my laser level every time I started working. It was a big enough pin I knew it wasn't going anywhere.

If you can't get it exact being off 3/4" won't affect your line placement. The liner will stretch into that no problem.
