Grout repair FYI

I just used a pool patch grout repair kit to fix some tile where the grout had come off. There seem to be different versions but I think they are the same, just some white cement with a bonding additive.

Anywho a word to anyone looking to use it, this stuff drys quickly! I mean don't use the whole three pounds at once if you're not prepared to moved quickly before it starts to dry out. I've tiled floors before so I know how to grout.

I divided up the container into 4 equal parts and measured the additive into the same amount. I then decided what four sections of the tile to fix and worked in sections and it worked well this way. Anyway just throwing this out as an FYI hope it helps.

I have some spots in my grout that seem to be eroding a bit. How do you clean existing grout out before you re-grout?

I already had a couple of tools to scrape out grout, one has carbide and the other is a blade with some hooks. You can find them at Home Depot or Lowes.

You could also use a fine bladed screw driver or a utility knife. My tile has thin joints so sometimes the tools were a little too wide and the knife worked better. Afterwards a good power wash will clean everything out and may even expose some other loose grout, happened to me. Hope this helps.
