Pentair Back Wash Valve

All of our pool equipment is Pentair. Yesterday I notice our back wash valve is leaking at the top. This is the second time this has occurred. We had it replaced under warranty back in January. (Pool is less than a year old). Has anyone else had any issues with this back wash valve? I am a little concerned. I have the warranty folks coming out this week again.

I have a Pentair QuadDE-100 for the last four years....same backwash valve....no leaks (knock on wood). Then again, I don't really backwash. If you install a large enough filter, then you can simply tear it down twice per year and not mess around with backwashing.

Also, if you follow TFP's recommendation, you should only be backwashing the filter when the pressure has risen 25% over clean pressure. So for a 10psi clean pressure, one would wait until 13psi to backwash. Many other sites and PBs recommend you either wait until the pressure difference is astronomical (like 10psi over clean pressure) or they suggest you backwash on some frequent basis like monthly. Neither of those recommendations are appropriate.

I have backwashed 3 times. First time it went out after the 2nd back wash. This time after 1!!!! Not good.

Same here...it's not like I backwash 20 times and it eventually starts leaking...AFTER EACH TIME?!...I'm just going to have warranty repair it again...maybe after enough times, they'll figure out why it's failing after each use.

Just wanted to give an update. Warranty company came out and initially replaced the manifold and the valve. Continued to leak DE into pool. Came out the next week and replaced the grids. No more leakage.

Equipment has only been running about 18 months, full Pentair as well, just yesterday water started leaking out the top of the valve. Figure I'll call the pool company tomorrow and see what they are willing to do. Don't know if they'll replace or rebuild. I don't know that I want it cut out of all of the plumbing, but if they are only going to rebuild I could probably do as good a job myself.

I have back washed probably 8 to 10 times. The pressure gauge doesn't go up as much as some note that it should before backwashing, but I can tell water flow is way down by my how much water I get coming out of the spa waterfall. With a Live Oak tree over part of the pool and the amount of stuff I get in the pool I figure it really needs the back-washing, but I could still be over doing it.

Have they replaced your valve or rebuilt it?

They replaced it.
