Pool heater only working in spa mode???

Hey everyone,

New to the site, so thanks for all the advice. We have a new pool and just this wkd the pool heater (Jandy) is not heating when in pool mode. In spa mode, the hot tub heats up nicely. Having no issues with the spa, but when I switch over to pool heating, it's not working to heat the pool area of our pool. Any advice would be appreciated!

Jon,

Welcome to TFP... A Great resource for all your pool questions... :lovetfp:

It would help if we had a little more info..

I suspect you have some type of automation, if so what specific brand do you have?

Has the pool side worked before, or is the first time you have used it?

When switching from Spa to Pool, does everything work, other than the heater? Does the pump work, and if so at what speed?

At first blush, I would say that you have a programming issue in your control panel. But that is just a guess...

If the pool is new, then it would make sense to have your pool builder look at it.

Thanks for posting and looking forward to your response,

Jim R.

Hey Jim R.

Thanks for the response. We have the Jandy system. The pool heater has worked in the past. When I switch from spa to pool, everything is working. In fact the existing heat/warm water heating the spa, transfers to the pool, but after a while, it appears as though the heater shuts down. Pump speed 2750 rpm, watts: 264.

Thanks again,

Jon

Jon,

Well, I'm a Pentair guy, but in general the automation has to tell the heater to turn on.

I thought maybe the flow was too low when in the pool mode for some reason, but 2750 RPM should be plenty.. I assume your filter is clean and you have good flow out of your pool returns..

I suggest you look at the heater control panel when in the Spa mode and see what it says.. Then switch to the pool mode and see if anything changes. That might point us in the right direction.

On my Pentair unit I can turn the heat on/off at the control panel. Do you have such a button on your Jandy control panel? If so, it would be interesting to know if that button has any effect.

Let's see if one of our Jandy experts wants to chime in on this one..

Thanks,

Jim R.
