Can someone please define what "vac to waste" consists of. Is it simply backwashing or cleaning your filter?

Hi!

Nope - it totally bypasses the filter and goes out the waste line. Backwash reverses the water flow through the filter and then out the waste line - used to clean the filter grids of accumulated dirt; "Rinse" = "filter to waste" - it runs water through the filter and out the waste lane.

It will provide a little more suction and may save you some time and clorine if you're fighting alge.

It also empties ALOT of water from the pool in a short period of time.

I can vouch for that. Here in NE Florida we've been having a lot of rain. Sometimes as much as 3-4 inches in an hour. So I've needed to drain some of the water from the pool frequently and in these situations use filter to waste.
