Hello to All,

The Gunite/Pebblesheen company finished their acid wash this Wed. They started the Monday before last. Bottom line, the results yielded a 90-95% success.

Start the Monday before last and added 1 gal M-Acid for every 2000 gallons over a 2 day period to bring the TA = 0. We first drained the pool 1 inch below the tile line. Two circulating pumps were added and were run 7x24 for a total of 9 days straight. On about the 7th day, the TA was rose and they added 1 more gallon to keep at 0. Once the pool was almost done, they added about 2/3 gal M-Acid to spa w another pump. Two days later, they added enough sodium bicarbonate to completely neutralize the M-Acid.

The pool was slightly cloudy and I was instructed to run the pump 24 hrs. Did so and it was still a bit cloudy so it was shocked. Ran the pump again 24 hrs and this Friday morning it was crystal clear.

here are the readings now:

pH 7.2
Total Cl 1.0
Free Cl 0.5
TA 60
Cya 40
Ca 80

The Gunite company that warrantied the work were here every day checking, brushing, etc. He's coming back this coming Wed to review again. They stated the over acidizing or doing it too fast was not a good methodology. They now bring the TA to zero slowly and make sure the TA does not hot the (-) range or where it cannot be measured.

There are a couple of places that darkened the sizes of nickles/qtrs, and he said if they did not lighten in the 1 week period, they would perform underwater fixes. All in all, I would say it very successful.

Thank you,
