Emerson 1.5 heats up burnt smell. Stops and hums

My Emerson 1.5 hp pump heats up after 10 minutes, burnt smell, then stops and hums.
Since it starts , not start capacitor, correct? Does this pump have a run capacitor? The pump is at least 10 years old.

no change in voltages or electrical wiring but did not check voltage.

Checked for debris around pump/ motor but all clear.

Suction is good. This all started after I back washed. It did this last week as week as well. Heat up burnt smell then it just ran fine.

Thanks

Did you check inside the pump impeller for debris, or bearing failure?

If it is the motor, the centrifugal contacts may be going bad.
If you run the pump, do you hear it click just after startup?
Does it click again while running?
Is the start cap hot when the motor seizes?

Sounds to me like bearings or wet end issues.

IMO, it's served its life, this is an opportunity to buy an efficient staged or vs pump.

I think you are right

Didn't know if the pump some how could contribute to the motor heating up. The ten min it runs, it seems fine. Once again all started after backwashing (coincidence ?)

May not be coincidental. Do you have a check valve between the pump and filter?
