Sand for Intex filter? (sand in pool)

We bought the AquaQuartz sand for our new filter, did the initial backwash and rinse, and we were getting a ton of sand in our pool. So much so that we unhooked the filter and put the cartridge filter back on the pool (the weak one that came with the pool). We have taken apart the filter and checked all of the laterals, but they all looked fine. We are wondering if the sand may be too fine. It says on the bag that it is 0.45-0.55 mm, and the filter manual says use 0.45-0.85mm sand. Should we switch to another sand? Any suggestions?

Did you make sure that none of the sand went down the pipe?

I don't know about the AquaQuartz sand.
