Please redirect me if this is in the wrong area. I was wondering what I would be better off using for chlorine. I have a NG heater and in ground copper supply/return lines and would like to stretch out their lives for obvious reasons.

The type of Chlorine does not matter as far as metallurgy is concerned. Once diluted, and distributed in the water, all forms are all identical. It's the amount you have in proportion to your Cya level that matters most. Also, keeping proper control of pH is even more critical if you are concerned with preserving the Copper piping. If you don't have one, I cannot recommend strongly enough that you get a very good test kit and start using it ASAP.
