Filter Puking Sand Into Above Ground Pool

I am trying to open the pool, but my filter keeps puking sand into the pool and doesn't seem to be filtering at all. I did disassemble the filter last weekend and replaced a few broken septums. I also disassembled the diverter valve and verified that the sealing ridges between compartments were intact.

    What else should I check?

    Thanks,

    Mike

Are you positive it is sand? Can you capture it between your thumb and forefinger and take it out of the pool and is it grainy and gritty?

Yup, it is filter sand. I scoop under the pump discharge with a fine net and it is clearly sand.
