Draining above ground pool and can't get last inch or so of water out

Hello everyone! We purchased our house last September, when we bought it there was already a 24 inch above ground pool. When we made the offer on the house last August the pool was already dark green with algae. We were told that a cover was going to be put on it after the current owner closed it for us. Because that was not in writing, it didn't happen. The previous owner did empty the filter and close it though. So when summer came and we tried to open the pool that algae was impossible to get completely rid of. We spent hundreds of dollars on chemicals and hours upon hours trying to get rid of all of the algae. We've come to the conclusion that not possible. So we decided to rent a sump pump and drain the pool. We had success so far and The pool drained quickly. Our problem now is that We have some places in the bottom with about an inch or so of water that the sump pump can not get out. I was hoping that someone may have some tricks or tips to help us get the last inch of water out.

    Welcome to TFP!!!

What kind of pool and how old is the liner? If the line is over 1-2 years old, you should never drain them as the liner will shrink and be ruined.

I would fill the pool back up ASAP!!! And hope the liner does not rip.

It is most certainly possible to clear up algae without draining the pool ... you were just trying to follow horrendous advice from a pool store and not following our ShockLevelAndMAINTAIN Process.

I wish all first questions were this easy.

Wet-n-dry shop vacuum. Then old towels or carwash sponges.
16K freeform gunite with spa; Pentair 4000 DE filter; Century Whisperflow 1 HP; Pentair Minimax heater.
Troublefree does not mean Maintenancefree. It's like brushing your teeth: You can spend a couple minutes a day and pennies a week or go to the dentist once a year and spend several thousand dollars.
A pool is like a pet - you have to feed it every day, even the days you don't want to play with it!
