So when Leslies says the Phosphates are high over 100, should I use their PhosFree solutions they sell to lower it or what is recommended to lower Phosphates? Also what happens when Phosphates are high, does that induce algae?

Thank you for your help.

Phosphates don't matter one bit if you are maintaining adequate chlorine levels for your CYA. Yes, phosphates are food for algae but maintaining chlorine means there's no algae to eat the phosphates. It's like a restaurant with no customers. Reducing phosphate levels can be an option to allow for lower average FC levels for maintenance, but it's much more expensive than simply using the proper amount of bleach or SWG output.

Over 100 would not be considered high, but even if they were 2000 PPB, good consistent FC levels will make it irrelevant. Non existent or dead Algae cannot utilize phosphates, so it does not matter.

:) Golden rule - Avoid the pool store for testing, advice, or products. You simply won’t get the advice/service you deserve and you will waste money on products your pool doesn’t need. Do not add anything to your pool other than what is advocated by the TFP site or its experts. You’ll have a happier pool, spend less time maintaining your pool, and probably save some $$ in the process. The following are short articles from this site that you will see linked in my signature below: Pool School, Recommended Levels (for YOUR pool), PoolMath Calculator, SLAM, and the Chlorine/CYA Chart.

PS ~ Good luck with the weather tonight. :)
