I purchased a home last year with an in-ground pool. See my pool profile information. I have spent probably 5 hours online reading reviews. Too much of what is now on Google are simply advertisements, and of course are biased. Here's a synopsis of my pool cleaning "history":
1. House came with a Polaris 380. Did not work well. Prior owner never read manual from what I could see and I needed to fix/repair many issues with this cleaner. Bottom line: spent too much time in one area of pool, became tangled too often, was greatly affected by cold weather with poor performance. I ended up donating this to a new pool store.
2. Read a lot about robotic pool cleaners. Decided to try the Maytronics Dolphin Triton. It is a nice looking unit, that is easy to put together and get into pool & use. It is easy to clean the mesh filters and that part of the advertising is accurate. It does not consistently scrub the pool walls and it will go along part of the wall at the water level and then fall back into the pool. My pool is gently curved so there is no reason for this to occur. It will not climb up pool steps despite being quite broad in dimension. It will not clean the in-water pool "bench". it will spend more time in the deep end than in the shallow end. Bottom line: I will return the Dolphin Triton since I have had it for less than 30 days & purchased via Amazon.
So what Robotic Pool Cleaner does what it is supposed to do in the ads? I called a company called "In the Swim" located in Chicago. I have never spoken to a more inept bunch of people in
my entire life. They had no first hand experience or feedback regarding any of the robotic cleaners that they sell. All they could do is recite the info (possibly hype) of the brochures that they had sent to me.
Does anyone have recommendation for an outstanding robotic cleaner? I am not concerned re the price but want a unit that cleans all the pool, walls, steps if at all possible and that is easy to clean and maintain (and will do leaves in fall & pollen in spring).
Is there any unit out there or should I simply buy a cheap cleaner and hire a pool "guy" to come out once a week in the summer or do it myself?
