What is SLAM

Welcome to TFP!!:handwave:

We have found that the pool store method of throwing untested amounts of chlorine at a pool (what they call shocking the pool) is a little unscientific and possibley dangerous to the equipment. Many times they give the same advice to someone with a 5,000 gallon Intex as they do to someone with a 40,000 gallon inground.

Our system that we call SLAM (Shock Level And Maintain) is constructed to provide the shock level of chlorine for that pool for as long a necessary (the maintain part) to kill everything in the water. So, we do not "shock" our pools, we follow the SLAM Process when there is a problem.

Welcome to TFP! If you have any problems getting around the site, below are some of the links that may help you a bit.

When you get a moment, feel free to add your pool info to your signature by going to the top of the TFP web page (just under the Pool School button) and select "SETTINGS". On the next page look to the left for a menu bar that says, “MY SETTINGS” and go to "EDIT SIGNATURE" to enter your pool and equipment info there. It will help us later. Again, welcome!

Welcome!

The newbies section is called Pool School.

If your pool is considered public - even in a HOA - you'll have to deal with the Health Dept. It would be wise to hunt down the local authority's website and find out the exact rules you have to follow. Their ideas of ideal FC levels may be different than ours.

Welcome to the forum

Like a pool, just jump in and ask any questions you have. Reading "Pool School" will go a long way in giving you great ideas and likely prompting a lot of questions. :pirat:
