New Deck Build. Figured I'd post some pics....

So we decided to build a deck completely around our AG 24' pool.

It's far from done, and it's taking way longer than I'd like, but its tough when you are doing it all by yourself. Irwin quick clamps are my best friend right now....they have been like a second set of hands for me. 16' boards aren't light by any means. I "MIGHT" have it finished by the end of the summer.....lol I can only work on it about an hour or 2 every other day or so.

It has been one big learning experience. The back right side of the deck is actually about 6" below the top of the hillside...I had to dig out a little bit......The front left corner is about 5' off the ground.
Total length is 39'x30'. 3' walkway on each of the 3 narrowest sides and a 12' deck on the back, closest to the house. We have a small 10' back porch and it is just way too small, so I decided to go 12' on the pool deck. Boy oh boy, 12' in the middle is perfect, but when you get closer to the edge, it get to 14', then 16' then 18' and so on. The bottom left corner is HUGE!!!!! It's way more deck than we will ever need, but we have 2 small kids that will more than likely want to have tons of friends over when they get older. Since the deck is so big, it just gives us more reasons to have lots of ppl over for parties! lol

    Enjoy...

    Awesome, I love it.

I hope to expand our deck at some point and put it level with the pool.

Beautiful pool - I love the liner! I really enjoy DIY projects. They are so interesting, and I admire anyone with the talent and skill to do them. Your project is terrific, and your photos really show your steps and stages. Speaking of which.... where will your steps be? What is your design plan for them (I'm very big into steps! LOL!)?

Your property is wonderful. It must be stunning with snow! Thanks so much for sharing your deck project with us! Keep the pictures rolling. Take care. Suz.

3rd pic up from the bottom. Little platform to the side of the deck. Stairs will come down from there parallel to the deck down towards that deck box that is under the deck right now.

And you guys have to look over the mess.....lol I didn't do a very good job of cleaning up my mess....hahaha I'll get out there this weekend and get it all cleaned up under the deck and maybe get some landscaping fabric down so the grass doenst continue to grow. I had planned on putting gravel under there, but I got so caught up in trying to get the deck boards on, i completely forgot about it. Now it will be tough to put gravel under there. I'll figure out something to make it look nicer under there eventually.

    Thanks for the compliments.

Nice work! I am glad I did not have to help with the shovel work!

No one has EVER said they wished they had a smaller deck. You did good with the size.

Yeah...I think I have dug 41 post holes for this project. All by hand. I bought a small 8" auger from lowes and tried it. It was actually more trouble than just digging it by hand. Every time I hit a rock it bogged down and kicked back and jarred my arms. It did ok for about half of the holes, but the other half were all with a spud bar and post hole diggers. Fun times.

You're right on about kids' friends and deck space. We have 2 kids and enjoy entertaining. We are having 50 people today and 50 more on Sunday. Space is great. That was part of our deal with getting the pool. We had to be willing to share it in order for it to make sense for us. Looking great! Hard work will pay off.

I can appreciate all the effort. Lots of digging, TONS of screws. Nice work.

Had a few PMs about this deck.

Figured I would answer some of the questions here.

I set a post at every pillar on the pool. Used 2x8s for the support frame and 1" premium decking boards for the top.

I did use joist hangers on everything. 3" screws were used for the frame and 2 1/2" for the deck boards. The top sits about 1/4" below the lowest part of the pool. Every post has a cap on it that sits about 1/2" lower than the railing. My deck is 1/4" below that. Around most of the pool, the deck sits 1/2" or even 3/4" below the top rail of the pool. This is a little larger gap than I would have liked, but it had to be that way. So far, no toes have gotten stuck under there.

Railing will more than likely be vinyl with aluminum frame. But that's probably going to be a few weeks out.

    Glad everyone likes it.

Planning on a back porch with the same railing and eventually maybe attach the 2 together. But I think i'm done for the season...That deck was tough to build all by myself.
