What is this?

Just bought a new home (to us) and inherited a pool. Working on getting all the chemistry balanced and going well.

Have a Hayward navigator pool cleaner and this contraption was attached to where the hose plugs into the skimmer. Seems the valve would open to prevent all the water from being sucked through the hose/cleaner but I'm not sure of its purpose. Any ideas?

I am guessing it is some type of variable pressure bypass regulator for the suction cleaner, it is used to turn down the suction if your pump has too much flow.

yes it is an MB valve which comes with Zodiac cleaners. It is used to regulate the water flow through your suction cleaner when connected to your pump.
