pool opening / slam ph high?

I opened the pool yesterday and slammed it. Ph is high how long should I be concerned with ph before I need to reduce it??

PH is actually supposed to be at 7.2-7.5 before starting the SLAM. At this point, continue with the SLAM (thoroughly) by maintaining it until you pass all 3 criteria. Don't let that FC SLAM level drop. Once the SLAM is done, then you can go back and adjust the PH.

The 3 SLAM objectives are:
1. Water is clear
2. You do not lose any more than 1ppm of FC overnight (that's the OCLT)
3. CC (Combined Chlorine) is <.5

I would slightly disagree with Pat.

The pH test is not valid when FC > 10ppm.

If the FC drops below 10ppm, test the pH and get it into the lower 7s before raising the FC level back to for the ShockLevelAndMAINTAIN Process.

Your pH is probably not high.... or at least not as high as you think. High FC reacts with the phenol read and it falsely reads high pH. Photographic proof!

This does not answer any of our questions from what I can see.

Have you read the ShockLevelAndMAINTAIN Process? It is not a one time addition.

Chlorine does not impact PH level. What was the PH level before you added the chlorine to get it over 10?

Well, adding bleach does in fact raise the pH. But as the chlorine is consumed, the pH drops back down making the birch effectively pH neutral.
