We had our new 18x34 agp buried about halfway back in March/April.

We're now ready to start our deck build. The rains have been almost non-stop, so our back yard has basically been a beautiful pool surrounded by a giant mud pit.

I thought it would be fun to document this process as well.

Here are a couple of before pics:

The first is right after installation, the second is to show how we've been making do with our temporary foam mat walkway.

Here is one while we were working with the nasty clay, to ensure that all water would drain away from both the house and the pool.

And finally today, here is where we have finished the dirt work and roughly pre-planned our footer locations.

Just an update, here is a rough plan, the lines are for the joists.

And here is after day one.

We had to re-work the outside plumbing so that the faucet will be higher than the deck.

I will post more later. The deck we're building now is only half. Next summer we will bring it all the way around the pool.

I must have skipped a day of pictures, oops!
Here is yesterday's progress.

Yes, I would say I've been over the whole mud and ladder stage for a while. I'm ready to get those wedding cake steps in and be done.
I guess it's a good thing that I now have quite a few empty bleach bottles. My plan is to fill them with pea gravel and bleach to help weigh the steps down.

Love how you did your pool steps. As for railing, I think the wood with the black balusters looks sharp. We did the black with ours and I was very impressed with how it turned out.

Keep dry!

I have mine as an overlap like that as well. I designed my free standing deck to allow it to be slid back on the framing to allow this. Not sure how you would do this one unless there is enough clearance between the top caps and the deck boards to allow the caps to come off.

Wow, it's been a bit longer than I thought since my last update.

We knew going with this design would make the liner replacement a pain. Our plan is to replace the current deck boards with composite whenever we need a liner replacement, so they'll be coming up either way.

I know someone also expressed concern about the method we used to attach it to the house. This is one of the reasons why I LOVE this forum. It really feels like a supportive community.
Anyway, that side is sloped slightly away from the house to help with run off. We're also building an awning there as well.

Here are a couple of pics of the new rails.
Okay, just kidding, having trouble uploading through tapatalk, will try again shortly.

It only took us two pickets to learn the importance of pre-drilling.

Tomorrow we will finish screwing down the boards and running 1x4 around the inside edge so that they will stay even all the way around.
