Brown stains on the bottom of the pool

I also have a growing brown stain on the bottom of my pool, near the drains. I tried holding the chlorine puck on it and it did nothing. Vitamin C in a stocking did nothing. My husband says he remembers putting
something in the water that seemed to help last year, but why is the stain back?

Trichlor puck would fade it if it were an organic stain.
Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) would fade it if it were an iron stain.
Citric acid would fade it if it were a relatively fresh/new copper stain.
