When I turn on my pump (century pump , 1 horse, 110 volt) it makes a loud noise like something hitting a fan blade. The noise goes away in a few seconds. I was wondering if I am supposed to oil the motor in any way. If anyone has any ideas on what this is please let me know.

No. The bearings are sealed.
Kill the power to the pump and remove the strainer basket and see if you can poke your fingers up inside the impeller. Long stiff things like pine needles or bamboo and palm slivers can slip past the basket.

I agree that it could be something in the impeller. You might need to open the pump to check. Is the pump basket in good shape?
If it's not something in the impeller, it might be something hitting the motor fan. The motor fan is towards the front of the motor and is mounted on the motor shaft. You can see it if you look in the front ventilation holes. Sometimes debris gets in the holes and contacts the internal fan blades.

Check the other end of the motor. I had a snail in the fan making a racket bouncing off the blades.
