Having trouble replacing pressure gauge in Haywood Swimpro Voyager

The filter is recessed, on an even plane with the filter cover and it seems impossible to get it out. I don't really know anything about pools but I know it can be dangerous if the pressure is too high. If anyone knows a trick it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
 
Don't know if this helps but, I have a friend with a Hayward Xstream filter and he says it has a couple of safety clips you remove to release the locking ring which allows him to remove the cover to replace filter. I think when you remove the cover you can access the gauge from the underside of the cover. I would think the Hayward site would have a parts or manual that may describe how
