I rubbed a Trichlor puck on a stain, leaving a white film on it. 20 minutes later, I came back, and the white Trichlor was gone, but the stain was still there. Has anyone successfully used the procedure on a stain?

This only works if the stain is organic.
Pick up a cheap vitamin C tablet and put it on the stain. Vitamin C will remove/lighten metal stains.

I agree a vitamin C tablet (ascorbic acid) is the cheapest approach to stain id. If you are still confused by the stain, there is a product called Jack's Magic Stain ID kit that can help to identify a stain. They are a bit pricey so I would do the trichlor puck test (careful, trichlor is very acidic and you don't want to leave it on plaster for very long), then ascorbic acid tablet and then get the kit if the first two tests fail.
Has anyone actually had success at rubbing the Trichlor, or is it so dangerous to the plaster, no one has tried?
