New liner opinion

We are due for a new liner & will be getting one next year. Currently we have three or more patches & the previous owners must've scrubbed the top of the liner with an abrasive so the pattern is gone & a nasty scum line remains. It does hold water, but on top of the aforementioned issues the underlying sand is sunk at one side & there are divits which have created weak stretchy spots in the liner. There are also sharp objects poking up where I've laid patches. We currently have an overlap liner.
1. Any opinions on liners? Color especially, best for heat absorption / retention?
2. Thoughts on the mats / cove they make now that can be laid on the sand that claim to prevent sharp objects poking liner / uneven spots?
3. Beaded vs overlap liners? Pros / cons? Convert to beaded?

thank you in advance

1. Colored liners do not retain heat.
2. Coves and pads are nice when you have weeds to keep from growing through the liner.
3. If you have an overlap liner, stay with it. Its pretty easy to install as I just did a pictorial tutitorial on it the other day.
