Need to remove side mount multiport to deep clean sand?

My Triton sand filter has a side mount multiport valve. Is it OK to place the valve on "CLOSE", then remove top from the filter and use a garden hose to wash the sand? The sticky about deep cleaning says to isolate the filter from the pool plumbing, so should I remove the valve? I see no reason to remove it, because closing the valve in effect isolates the filter from the pool plumbing.

    Welcome!

I don't know the right answer. I tend to agree with your assessment, though. You might shoot a PM to Smykowski, since he wrote the tutorial. In the meantime, this reply will help to things up where maybe someone who knows will see it.

Thanks, I will PM Smykowski. It would be easier to remove the sand and wash it in buckets, rather than remove the multiport in my installation!
