Pipe-work question

Hi,

Renting a house with a pool & have just opened it up for the summer for the first time.

Have a question about the inlet pipes to the pump. There are 3 - one for the skimmer, one presumably for the drain at the bottom of the pool & one labelled 'waste'. No idea what this could be for & have left it closed - circulation system seems to work ok without it.

Any idea why this is labelled 'waste' & whether I should leave it closed?

Maybe a valve added to the waste line to control leaking caused by a bad gasket in the multiport valve. Maybe an outlet from the pump to allow you to drain water from the pool. We'd need to know what kind of filter you have and where it is in the plumbing to know for sure. Pictures would be a big help.

That is certainly odd to have something labeled as waste on the suction side.

Likely you could just ignore it ... or ask the owners ... or open it and see what happens

It could be that the waste is the floor (so you know to use it if pumping water out) and the other 2 are a skimmer and a wall suction line for a cleaner?

Or the waste could be for a cleaner?
