Replacing both pump and filter

We are just about to replace our old outdated pump/sand filter.
I am looking at the Hayward Power Flo Matrix 1 hp

Hayward 1 HP Power Flo Matrix Above - Pool Supplies Canada

Now that we have that sorted out I am not sure which sand filter is best for our needs -- Everyone local has quoted us an 18" and I think our's is a 16".
Some sites say that's enough and some say 22"-23" is better.

Anything is better then we have now but if we are going to do it then I want to make the right choice.

Oh is it s 24' round above ground pool :)

Thanks for any and all help!

 Welcome to TFP!!!

Not to burst your bubble, but I would recommend a different pump. Specifically the 2-speed version of that one ;)

If you had a long season, like year round, I too would recommend 21"+ ... although given the location, 18" should be sufficient. No harm in going bigger, just means fewer backwashes.

Please add your location (City, State or City, Country) to your profile and pool details to your signature as described HERE as it will help us help you.
