Replacing both pump and filter

We are just about to replace our old outdated pump/sand filter.
I am looking at the Hayward Power Flo Matrix 1 hp

Now that we have that sorted out I am not sure which sand filter is best for our needs -- Everyone local has quoted us an 18" and I think our's is a 16".
Some sites say that's enough and some say 22"-23" is better.

Anything is better then we have now but if we are going to do it then I want to make the right choice.

Oh is it s 24' round above ground pool

Not to burst your bubble, but I would recommend a different pump. Specifically the 2-speed version of that one

If you had a long season, like year round, I too would recommend 21"+ ... although given the location, 18" should be sufficient. No harm in going bigger, just means fewer backwashes.

Thanks for the speedy reply -- I will see if I can find another pump -- everyone here locally only has the Ultra Pro so I thought I was doing better...lol.

For the minor cost increase of getting a 2-speed version, the electrical savings generally make it very worth it.

I did not think so. Although depending on the service factor, they could be equivalent.

Proving hard to find one that will ship here without having to mortgage my home Cheaper if I go 1/2 hp higher with the 2 speed -- as long as the 1.5 hp is still ok I think I will try the one I posted.

Even if I google that model number that site or Amazon is all that comes up. Any idea why?

Before I hit submit on my order though I just wanted to double check one thing -- at 1.5 HP will the 19" sand filter still be ok or because we upped the hp we should up the sand filter too?
