Tristar vs Ecostar?

The Ecostar is certainly a bigger pump than you need ... for that matter the Tristar is also likely overkill.

Have you considered a smaller 2-speed pump? Cheaper up front, most of the electrical savings, and less worry about the electronics messed up from nearby lightning.

Does not sound like you have a need for a lot of speeds.

The Tristar is included with the pool. I could probably ask to downgrade the pump and upgrade the filter. Currently the quote includes a Hayward C1500 (150 sq ft) filter.

Was it a Tristar VS, single speed or two speed?

Also, what kind of water features?

Yeah, Tristar VS and no water features.

With that size pool and no features, you could easily get away with a MaxFlo VS. Are you planning any automation?

And I agree with JB that a 200 sq-ft filter is more appropriate.
