Have a Hayward pump but I don't know which setting to put the valve on for cleaning

Hi, welcome to TFP! If you have a multi-port valve on your filter you have a choice of vacuuming while it is set to filter, or if the pool is green or full of leaves you may choose to vacuum to waste. Vacuuming to waste removes water from the pool so you need to pay attention to the water level while you vacuum so it does not drop so low the pump loses prime.
