Tested my buddys pool, help us get it back in action.

My buddy has been having pool issues. I took the tf-100 and ran the tests...

Cl= 0
Ph = 8.2
Ch = 500+
TA = 190
Cya = 0
Salt = 1200ppm

24" AG, 13500 gallons, cartridge filter, ionizer.

I told him to add 4g of liquid chlorine and 6lbs of stabilizer. Didn't tell him to get muriatic acid, but I think I should have.

Hes going to get a chlorine test kit (eventually a tft kit), and try and maintain the chlorine up. Still not sure how high to maintain it.

Is the water green? Clear? Cloudy?

If it isn't clear he probably needs to SLAM - Shock Level And Maintain the pool.

6lbs of CYA will raise the level to 53ppm. Use the Chlorine / CYA Chart to find the chlorine level for 53 CYA.

Its cloudy. If he slams and has zero CYA, should he slam to an FC of 10, while trying to build up CYA?

As CYA increases, increase FC according to the cl/cya chart?

Once he adds the Stablizer to target 30 and it is dissolved and brings the PH down to 7.2 he can SLAM to 12

Most of the CYA will be available within 2 days. As AZ says get PH to 7.2 and SLAM assuming CYA of 50.

Should he wait 2 days to add bleach?

You should not allow the FC to be zero for any reason. What was the result for CC? He needs to get the FC up quickly.

No, have him target at 2-4 for FC until the Stablizer is dissolved. Then he needs to target the level for the CYA you targeted.

In general pool maintenance you should never let the chlorine level drop below the minimum level for the CYA level or algae will start to grow, Pool School - Chlorine / CYA Chart
